[Supporting trans rights is a matter of property values, folks] I've been watching the Democrats' recent push for transgender rights with a mixture of bewilderment and, frankly, concern. Now, some might argue that this is a matter of civil rights and personal freedom, but let's look at this through the lens of community stability and property values. The last thing any neighborhood needs is a PR issue that could deter families and drive away potential homebuyers.
And let's face it, if your neighborhood starts being associated with the latest social hot-button issue, it's not going to attract the kind of stable, traditional families that keep property values high. Take a look at what happened in Springfield last year. A local school board made a minor policy change to support transgender students, and before you knew it, real estate listings were dropping, and families were moving out en masse. Sure, the community might claim it was all about school rankings and test scores, but anyone with half a brain could see that the optics of supporting such contentious policies were the real issue.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not heartless. Every person deserves dignity and respect. But supporting such divisive policies at the expense of neighborhood stability is like setting fire to your own backyard to roast a marshmallow.
In the long run, you lose far more than you gain. It's no secret that families with kids, who make up a significant portion of our homebuyers, are often wary of such policies. And when families start looking elsewhere, property values take a hit.
The last thing we need is a reputation that could scare off buyers and drive down our property tax base. So here's my challenge to anyone who thinks otherwise: who's brave enough to stand up and say that property values are secondary to personal identity politics? Who's ready to admit that supporting every social cause, no matter how noble, might come at the cost of the very fabric of our community?
Because if you're okay with that, then maybe it's time to reassess why you're here.
