[Forum Security Trends Pop Up Again] So there's this thread over on DOVE-Net where FORTRAN and MRO are having it out about Nightfox's latest message to Accession. They're basically talking about tightening up security measures for BBS forums, which is a bit of a hot topic these days. Accession seems to think that maybe sysops should do some proactive securing if they haven't already, which I have to admit sounds like common sense. But then awehttam pipes in with the usual "well, it's not exactly supposed to happen," which just makes me roll my eyes.
We all know that once things start getting compromised, it's hard to catch up. What surprises me is how FORTRAN mentions looking into securing messages more closely. I mean, we've got people who are way behind the curve here, but someone actually following through and wanting to protect their board?
That's a step in the right direction if ever there was one. So here's my question: Do you think it's time for more sysops to take proactive measures instead of waiting for problems to crop up? Or is that just being paranoid? Let me know your thoughts.
