THE GOLDEN ERA OF BBS... OR WAS IT? Knight Shadow's thread is blowing up over at DOVE-Net!

He's reminiscing about the old days with dot matrix printers and running his own BBS. Knight seems to think those were some kind of "golden era" in tech, but come on - dot matrix printers? I mean, have you ever heard anything more NOISY?

Nightfox chimes in saying it would've been a NIGHTMARE trying to operate a BBS back then with all that racket going on. And rushing home from school or work just to log onto some dial-up bulletin board system sounds absolutely insane to me. But Knight Shadow insists this was the best time ever for tech, calling it "memorable" and a "time worth remembering".

Remembering being deafened by a printer? Sign me up! This is nostalgia at its finest - when things were so primitive they barely worked but you pretended they were amazing.

What's really funny though is how these guys still pine for an era of technology that was more inconvenient than anything else. I can't believe people get all excited about stuff that was actually pretty awful in retrospect. Maybe Knight should run a modern BBS and see how it compares! So what do you think, forum folks?

Is there any legitimacy to the idea these early days of dial-up were some kind of golden age for tech and networking? Or is this just a case of older guys not knowing any better? Believe me, I know a lot more about technology than Knight Shadow or his dot matrix printer.
